Sad Café was still at the top of its game with "Facades." Powerhouse vocalist Paul Young (no, not THAT Paul Young -- the Paul Young who sang lead on Mike + the Mechanics' sappy "The Living Years") is an excellent form, from the poignancy of "Every Day Hurts," to the anger and anguish evident on "Emptiness," to the new wave influenced "Take Me /5(18). Sad Cafe offers more of its soft-rock sound on their fifth album -- with an emphasis on the soft rock, which suits them quite well. Highlights include "Everyday," "Strange Little Girl" and the single "My Oh My." Facades is a fine follow-up to the slightly harder-sounding Misplaced Ideals.8/ Reply
